This panel will introduce the book to be published entitled: Candles in the Dark: Ideas for an Ethical and Spiritual Awakening. This book is an international compendium of essays offering ideas for an ethically and spiritually enriched socio-political philosophy that esteems the human spirit and dignity as central values in policy making; seeks links between self interest and the common good; and introduces in a practical way philosophical, spiritual, and cultural perspectives into approaches to global political and socio-economic problems. Contributors represent a wide spectrum of scholarship, practical experience, and cultural histories. The contributors, professors in various disciplines as well as practitioners in business, diplomacy, and public policy share a sense of the importance of introducing ethical and spiritual concepts into the public discourse on development and global issues.
