The topic was Harmony with Nature. The choice of this subject took into account suggestions made by members of the Circle and the continued work of the Circle with the United Nations as an NGO in Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC.
Central issues included the importance of distinction between concepts of nature and the environment; rights of nature; the meaning of sustainable development in harmony with nature [ UN Target 12.8 of the SDG’ for 2030]; and approaches and conditions for achieving meaningful and peaceful coexistence among all forms of life on the planet. These conditions include a comprehensive understanding of happiness, full expression of empathy, and a genuine sentiment of Love for LIfe. and its reflections in all of Nature and the creation. A major concern was how people living in cities might share, or not, sentiments and appreciation of the intrinsic value of nature. The matter of nature deficit disorder was mentioned.
